About the Bluestocking Society

We first reconvened The Bluestocking Society in April 2010 as a tongue-in-cheek modern reincarnation of the original 18th century ladies' literary society, and set up an acclaimed regular cabaret night in London, Night of the Bluestockings, which ran for 3 years and also toured internationally to Belgium. This show hosted a vibrant, changing line-up of thought-provoking, alternative, funny female performers from the UK cabaret scene each month and was regularly Time Out Critic's Choice.
Now that all three of us have left London, we’ve taken the spirit of the Bluestockings far and wide, creating Secrets of the Bluestockings together as our first fully-scripted touring cabaret-theatre show, premiered in 2017.
For the last three years, the Bluestockings have also made original
pieces about the voyage of the Mayflower for the Illuminate Rotherhithe
Festival, in partnership with Sands Films. With 2020 being the 400th
anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, we are planning to turn these
pieces into a full length family-friendly show exploring the fascinating
lives of some of the Mayflower's passengers and portraying stories of
migration, persecution and community that are still so relevant today.
This show will tour nationally and be performed in Sands Films' famous
seventeeth century theatre in Rotherhithe, from where the Mayflower
famously set sail.
